Hydro Active Joint Seal
SealBoss ® SwellCaulk TM is a single component, hydrophilic, gungrade waterstop. The product is formulated for sealing construction joints, pipe penetrations and other concrete joints of smooth and uneven surfaces. Material cures and swells in the presence of moisture or water thereby creating a compression seal.
Curing time decreases with higher temperatures and greater relative humidity. SealBoss ® SwellCaulk will cure in approximately 24 to 36 hours depending on ambient climate.
The prodcuct is supplied in sausages or in cartridges. The product is for professional use.
SealBoss ® SwellCaulk can be used as an adhesive for SealBoss ® SwellTape, joint waterstop system, see corresponding data sheet.
SealBoss ® SwellCaulk should be applied to a dust-free concrete surface which can be uneven, rough, smooth, moist or dry.
Apply SealBoss ® SwellCaulk in an uninterrupted band 3/8” or 10 mm bead minimum to the middle of the joint or precast element. The concrete cover must be at least 3" or 7 cm on all sides in order to avoid cracks from the pressure of swelling material.
In underwater or very wet conditions (heavy rain) , the concrete pour should begin within 2 hours of application to prevent material from premature swelling which may result in reduced effectiveness of the product.
SealBoss ® SwellCaulk must be completely confined to perform properly. When used in precast or joints, minimum concrete cover is 3” or 7cm on all sides. Unconfined material may expand beyond design levels and may result in leaks. The product is not suitable for surface caulking applications. At temperatures below 40ºF, the product cure time may exceed several days.

Hydro Active Joint Seal Principle
When in contact with water, SealBoss ® SwellCaulk & SwellTape sealants develop an expansive swelling pressure.
The pressure between the expanding product and
the surrounding concrete structure prevents the
penetration of water through the joint and provides
a durable waterproofing solution.
SealBoss ® SwellTape is suitable for reinforced joints in concrete structures with a minimal strength of 2175 psi. The product should be applied to a dust-free concrete surface.
Due to the swelling pressure created during expansion,
SealBoss ® SwellTape must be installed at a minimum of 50 mm (2") from each side of the joint edge.
A) SealBoss ® Swell Tape may be embedded in freshly applied SealBoss ® Swell Caulk which serves as adhesive. The use of Swell Caulk will further assist in leveling uneven, porous concrete surfaces thereby enhancing the waterproofing properties of the system. Conditions for this method should be dry. B) SealBoss ® Swell Tape may also be nailed to the concrete surface. Shoot suitable concrete nails by spacing them 15 cm (6") apart using a high grade nail gun.
For overlap, crossings and terminations cut SealBoss ® Swell Tape in a 450 angle and connect without a visible gap.
Applications around plastic pipe penetrations are limited in diameter to DN 50 (2") cold water and DN 25 (1") for hot water. The high potential swelling pressure of SealBoss ® Swell Tape may result in pipe deformation. Larger diameters can be achieved with strong metal and cast iron pipes.
SealBoss ® SwellCaulk must be completely confined to perform properly.
SealBoss ® Swell Tape expands on contact with water.
Product must be in dry condition at time of use.
Avoid any prolonged contact with water prior or during application of product to avoid any premature swelling.
Product that is in a state of expansion prior to pouring will result in reduced waterproofing capacity.
